Eat and drink in Italy’s Southernmost region

Let’s start our gastro trip with local wine…

Volcanic soil and Mediterranean climate make Sicily ideal for growing wine grapes. Here you will find several wine regions such as notably Mount Etna (cover the lower slopes of Mount Etna, the tallest very active volcano in Europe which dominates Sicily’s northeastern corner), Noto, Faro and Vittoria.

And eat crunchy tubes

Originally hailing from the Palermo and Messina areas, these delicious tubes are synonymous with Sicily. Nowadays they’re sold to tourists across Italy, they’re generally the tastiest one here.

When you’re on the move or on your way to discover this city but feeling a bit peckish, try Sfincione or Sicilian pizza (yeah, the island has its own variety of pizza). It’s made with a thick crust and serving of tomatoes on top or other toppings like anchovies, onions and herbs. Unlike Neapolitan pizza, this pizza doesn’t have a cheese layer coating the tomato sauce, but cheese may be included as one of the toppings.

Find your favorite Sicilian dish or choose another region for your next gastro trip with our local.
